The Nickel Independent Film Festival Presents:
10 Provinces, 10 Years: Spotlight on Quebec Independent Film
April 5, 2012 8:00pm at the LSPU Hall
Tickets $10
Ten provinces. Ten years. Ten spotlights. That’s the idea behind The Nickel Independent Film Festival’s Spotlight Series. Our goal is to shine the spotlight on ten short films from each of Canada’s ten provinces over the course of ten years. That’s 100 Canadian-made short films to bask in the spotlight by the time the Nickel’s Spotlight Series wraps in 2021. A special curator from each province will act as a provincial programmer, select ten splendid shorts, and send them our way. Our mission is to share the unique culture of each province and applaud the rich diversity of Canadian independent filmmaking and filmmakers.
This year we’ve decided to focus on Quebec Independent Film. Curated by Danny Lennon of Montreal.
Danny Lennon is the Director of Prends ça court! founded twelve years ago. Internationally renowned programmer, he is involved with 20 festivals and events in the province of Quebec. He participates, year round, in over 60 festivals in 24 different countries, contributing in every imaginable and possible ways to the promotion, distribution, screening and production of independent and professional shorts. Lennon is the invited programmer and in charge of the online Short Film Competition (presented by the NFB) at Festival de Cannes/Short Film Corner since 2006. He also acts as an instructor at Montreal’s Institut national de l’image et du son (INIS). He is the film curator for Montreal’s PHI Centre, distributor and sales agent for PHI Group, ambassador for short film promotion at Sodec, responsible for launching the NOT SHORT ON TALENT initiative at Telefilm Canada. All this and he still finds time to go fishing!
