The Faculty of Arts of Memorial University of Newfoundland and NIFCO present two courses in basic High Definition Filmmaking.

Course 1 is aimed at high school graduates (June 2009).

Course 2 is open to adults 18 years and older.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) held a news conference to make several announcements related to the 2009 Arts Awards Show and Gala. The news conference took place at the Research Centre for the Study of Music, Media and Place (MMaP) at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John’s.

The NLAC Arts Awards is an annual celebration of the arts in Newfoundland and Labrador. Artists of all disciplines are recognized through the presentation of six awards.

The Arts Awards Show and Gala will take place on Saturday May 2, 8 p.m. at the Reid Theatre in St. John’s.

Finalists were announced today in three award categories:

Artist of the Year 2008 – recognizes the art or activity of a person, group or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the cultural life of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2008.

Just a quick update re NIFCO and Bern Hammond.

Bern has now been with us for 3 months and he has been working closely with Steve Cook to finalize the facility enhancement. To date things seem to be running smoothly and in the near future Bern will be taking over the equipment rentals which will be great for the co-op gear.
